Overview

"The work of the newest major talent in fantasy." --Wall Street Journal

"Compulsively readable, with the deep, resonant magic of a world where reality is up for grabs. Unputdownable." --Boing Boing

Carloyn knows she's a little bit...odd. But she figures that's only natural when she's spent her life locked away in an infinite Library, forced to study at the feet of the man who might be God. She's seen her share of terrible things in those years, even died a few times herself.

Steve tried hard to be an ordinary guy, and he's been doing a pretty good job at it--until Carolyn shows up in his life with a tempting offer, a pair of red rubber galoshes, and exactly $327,000. Soon, he finds himself swept up in a war waged on a scale he can barely comprehend, as powerful forces battle for control of the Library and the future of the universe itself.

Brilliantly plotted, blackly funny, truly epic in scope--and featuring a cast of characters that includes a tutu-clad psychopath, a malevolent iceberg, and a lion named after an atomic bomb--The Library at Mount Char is the year's most ambitious and acclaimed fantasy debut and a ride like none you've ever been on before.

  • This is not your average library

    Eric N. - 4 years 11 months ago

Father's library is not your average library. Its full of ancient handwritten tomes on war, language, animals, healing, and resurrection. Here you study your catalogue and nothing else, but with those studies comes more power than you could think possible. With Father mysteriously gone, and his enemies approaching, we must protect the library.

  • A horrifc dark fantasy unlike anything I have read before

    Sam M. - 5 years 2 months ago

Unique world-building with complex and compelling characters, many of them straddling the line between traumatized and terrifying. This is one of those books you will think about years after you read it.

  • Mount Char

    Rhiannon S. - 6 years ago

This is one of those books that I have on my mind immediately when people ask for recommendations. It's a story that doesn't just fall into line with all of the other books out there. I don't know that I've ever read anything like it. I wish so badly that he had plans to make a sequel! #SummerReading

  • Go get it! - Single volume fantasy

    Josh K. - 6 years 1 month ago

Great story, good new angle for a single-volume fantasy tale. A little meandering in the beginning, but it all comes together and develops well.

  • Fresh, Mind-bending Fantasy

    Allie S. - 6 years 2 months ago

"The Library at Mount Char" is a wonderfully bizarre story that paves a new path in fantasy literature. The beginning of the story is a little hard to follow, but as you progress your way through, you won't be able to put the book down. The twists and turns along the way keep you captivated and wondering what will happen next, and I found I could never predict what was going to happen next. I was left disoriented, yet completely satisfied with this book. I can't recommend it enough.
