In college I met a whimsical little sprite who told me this was her favorite book. I had never read it, and to impress my new friend, picked up a copy. It had me in tears, and I've read it repeatedly since, crying every time (in the good way). Though it appears to be a simple story for children, it becomes more relatable the older you get. It illustrates to me that as we grow up, we think we know what is best for ourselves and those around us, and how often we regret the choices we make in those moments of confidence. Most importantly though, it expresses the simple hope that the next choice will be better. That we can grow and improve, and even with our mistakes, we can leave a positive impact behind us.

What's It Like to Be a Child Again?

Imagine a trip back to childhood, where questions abound and everything is new. Not everything in the adult world makes sense, from the accountant who calculates constantly for no apparent reason, or the lamplighter who lights his lamp only to circle his small planet and put it out again. What our hero the Little Prince also finds are friends and even a very special rose that teach him how to hold on to those childlike moments. A short novel for children and adults alike, The Little Prince is a classic not to be missed.
