Overview

Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue never sees them--until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks to her.

His name is Gansey, a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.

But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can't entirely explain. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul whose emotions range from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She doesn't believe in true love, and never thought this would be a problem. But as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she's not so sure anymore.

  • A boy king, a non-psychic, a street racer, a ghost, an honor student, and a raven named Chainsaw.

null null. - 2 months ago

In a small town in West Virginia, five high schoolers from different backgrounds will have their fates intertwined when they discover that one of them is foretold to die that year, while another is fated to kill her true love... but they're too busy communing with psychics, hanging with hitmen, and hunting for the tomb of an ancient Welsh king to care too much. Though usually shelved in Teen, I recommend this series for New Adult readers. It hooks you in like a fast-paced live action supernatural drama, but has the magical situations and realistic teen characters of a cult classic. It's beloved after all these years for a reason!

  • Magic and Mysteries for a Murder of Raven Boys

    Kristal L. - 10 months ago

The Raven Boys, the first novel in Stiefvater's quartet "The Raven Cycle" begins in a dreamy, slow manner. The plot follows Blue, the only psychic in a non-psychic family, as she befriends a group of boys looking for the magical but exiled king Glendower. The boys and Blue stumble towards unknown mysteries and an uncertain fate. Near the end of this novel and through the subsequent installments, Stiefvater picks up the plot pace and character development. Readers: the beginning can be confusing, but picking up this book a second time after finishing the rest of the quartet will reveal nuances to the characters and their relationships that were unknown the first time around.

  • Stiefvater outshines herself in the beginning of this wonderful series.

    Trish W. - 5 years 11 months ago

There is no real way to describe how amazing this book is. The first book in a series of four, paints a picture of five teenagers doing normal teenage things. That is if you consider telling the future, looking for Viking kings in Virginia, and solving a murder normal. Stiefvater outshines herself in the beginning of this wonderful series.
