Everyone should read this novel as it is quite a good one. I don't want to give anything away but if you are into apocalyptic or dystopian works, then this one is for you. #SpringPicks
"when your dreams are of some world that never was or some world that never will be, and you're happy again, then you'll have given up. Do you understand? And you can't give up, I won't let you.” ― Cormac McCarthy, The Road In recent years, we have become obsessed with post-apocalyptic media. Zombies, obliterated warzones, and nuclear warfare plague the minds of readers everywhere. Yet, besides these literary cliches, Cormac McCarthy's naturalistic post-apocalyptic America of "The Road" takes readers on a much more contemplative and poetic journey. McCarthy mystifyingly interweaves the power of the grotesque with the spiritual journey of a young boy and his father as they navigate a burnt America. He pushes the reader to question what is it that makes someone fundamentally good, or bad. In a world in which we are barely surviving ourselves, can we risk reaching out and helping others? What is it that should keep us moving along the road, if there is little to no hope. This is the perfect book for highschoolers and beyond. Cormac captures the curiosity of a child, the protectiveness of a parent, and the lonesome heart of the wander to make it applicable to anyone who has ever felt they too are walking the road toward an ambiguous brighter future, forced to wonder if they will make it. #SummerReading
