  • A Modern Ghost Story And Amateur Detective Novel: A Creepy Fun Book For The Halloween Season

    Carolyn S. - 5 years 6 months ago

#BannedBook I just finished reading The Sun Down Motel and lived it! The story is part ghost story and murder mystery. The main characters are Viv who worked at the motel in 1982 and disappeared one night without a trace and her niece Carly, a mystery and true crime enthusiast who goes to Fell 35 years later to find out what happened to Viv who is her aunt. Fell is a very odd town and there have been a number of. girls who have disappeared over the years as well as a string of murders that Viv was investigating. And oh yes, the Sun Doen is haunted and one of the ghosts was one of the murder victims. The story. goes back and forth between Viv's and Carly's investigations and they get help from some interesting characters along the way. Normally I don't like duo timelines as I feel it disrupts the flow of the novel but in this book it works. The story is an homage to amateur detectives from Nancy Drew to cat detectives and their humans. It is also a terrific ghost story and even gives a nod to the master, Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. It's funny snd creepy and an excellent mystery! Perfect book for the Halloween season!

  • A fun mystery.

A fun read. I liked the back and forth between the "old days" and the "present" related to the mystery.

  • Things are not as they seem

This book is a must read if you are looking for something that is not a predictable read. You will get hooked from the beginning. While it can be confusing with all of the different characters and the two different time periods, the author does a terrific job with intertwining the time periods and making sure that there is a clear connection between everything. If you like suspense, mystery, and the ghost feel of a haunted place, you gotta read this! #SummerReading

This book was way out of my normal genre. It was so good! I couldn't wait to see what happened next. Things happened that I didn't expect. I think that made it even better. #SummerReading
