Overview

It's graduation day for sixteen-year-old Malencia Vale, and the entire Five Lakes Colony (the former Great Lakes) is celebrating. All Cia can think about--hope for--is whether she'll be chosen for The Testing, a United Commonwealth program that selects the best and brightest new graduates to become possible leaders of the slowly revitalizing post-war civilization. When Cia is chosen, her father finally tells her about his own nightmarish half-memories of The Testing. Armed with his dire warnings ("Cia, trust no one"), she bravely heads off to Tosu City, far away from friends and family, perhaps forever. Danger, romance--and sheer terror--await.

  • A Dystopian Trilogy for the ages

    HPB S. - 5 years 7 months ago

Loved this trilogy, the adventure Cia goes on is without equal. What i love most is the dystopian style and that it’s plausible this could happen. Loved this world and all it had to offer. #RequiredReading

  • Good book, could be better

Good book with interesting plot. It had a sense of mystery which I enjoyed. I would recommend to readers of the Hunger Games because it is similar. #SummerReading

  • Great Series!

    Luisa D. - 7 years 4 months ago

This is the first book in a three-book young adult series and a great read. Similar to The Hunger Games, the book takes place in/around Tosu (which is roughly the Midwest area of the United States in a dystopia setting). The story centers around Cia, a young girl who must pass "The Testing" in order to go on to The University. The characters are rich, and even though this seems to be a popular young adult genre right now, the story is unique and engaging. Great read.
