Overview

#1 New York Times Bestseller

Thug Kitchen started their wildly popular website to inspire people to eat some goddamn vegetables and adopt a healthier lifestyle. Beloved by Gwyneth Paltrow ("This might be my favorite thing ever") and named Saveur's Best New Food blog of 2013, Thug Kitchen wants to show everyone how to take charge of their plates and cook up some real f*cking food.

Yeah, plenty of blogs and cookbooks preach about how to eat more kale, why ginger fights inflammation, and how to cook with microgreens and nettles. But they are dull or pretentious as hell--and most people can't afford the hype.

Thug Kitchen lives in the real world. In their first cookbook, they're throwing down more than 100 recipes for their best-loved meals, snacks, and sides for beginning cooks to home chefs. (Roasted Beer and Lime Cauliflower Tacos? Pumpkin Chili? Grilled Peach Salsa? Believe that sh*t.) Plus they're going to arm you with all the info and techniques you need to shop on a budget and go and kick a bunch of ass on your own.

This book is an invitation to everyone who wants to do better to elevate their kitchen game. No more ketchup and pizza counting as vegetables. No more drive-thru lines. No more avoiding the produce corner of the supermarket. Sh*t is about to get real.

  • Great recipes, fun language

    Patricia M. - 5 years 8 months ago

The recipes I've tried have been excellent and the colorful language keeps me smiling and engaged when I'm cooking at the end of a long day.

  • Vegan cookbook with attitude

    Robyn H. - 6 years 5 months ago

Let me start with a warning- this book contains quite a bit of swearing and attitude. Now that we're past that, this cookbook is hilarious! It has recently picked up in popularity and then I found out it was entirely plant-based recipes and I was sold! I typically only read recipes that I find enticing when I buy a new cookbook, but I read this one cover to cover as soon as I got it home and was laughing the whole way through. I have already made three recipes from this book and two of the three will be added to my regular rotation. I already have 4 more recipes I want to try as well. As a vegan, I find it disappointing that so many veggie friendly cookbooks rely on fake meats and cheeses, but this one has plenty of recipes without either which makes it a more frugal cookbook in addition to being hilarious and containing delicious recipes. If you're a fan of cookbooks and are not turned off by the occasional f-bomb, this book may be worth reading even if you aren't a vegan or vegetarian.

  • Tasteful and Tasteless

    Clay D. - 7 years 10 months ago

At a glance, you may shrug this book off as just a cookbook with an edgy title, but you'd be missing out on some of the healthiest, easiest, and tastiest dishes you've ever had! All of these recipes are vegan, to boot! A warning: This book can be quite crass and vulgar; instead of soap why not wash your mouth out with tortilla soup?
