Thunderhead is the second book in Neal Shusterman's "Arc of a Scythe" series and picks up shortly where "Scythe" left off, with newly minted Scythe Anastasia (Citra from the last book) continuing in her mentors' footsteps. Her fellow apprentice, Rowan, has become the boogeyman for corrupt Scythes, taking on the name Scythe Lucifer. And there's trouble brewing in the Scythedom...I liked that the tone in this book stayed on-track with the last; while new characters and plots are introduced, the important story threads continue to be addressed and some old characters make surprising reintroductions. None of the main characters are perfect, and all of them have to make hard choices. One small quibble I had was that I wish the ending hadn't come so fast, but it does hit hard and lays some really fascinating ground for the next book, the upcoming "The Toll".
