This is an amazing find out of the teen fiction section. IT isn't one of the ones that blew up when dystopia became so popular, but it is so much better than others I have read. There are a lot of political effects in the book. It has enough explanation to understand how you could get to that dystopian future type. A classic story of teens rebelling against a system that keeps them down, but this system has the ability to kill them. Chilling in some parts and all around a wonderful book.
HPB Staff ReviewShusterman captures an image of the future in which children over the age of 13 can be "unwound" at their parents' discretion, a terrifying process in which they are broken down for parts that are used in medical procedures. It is a terrifying dystopia in which so much of society is advanced at an incredible cost. At its core, it is a story of incredible humanity and the limits to which it can be pushed.
HPB Staff ReviewThis book brings up an interesting concept of what life is and what it is worth. We see how laws about unwinding affect kids that all come from different backgrounds and how each of them has different opinions on them as well. By the end of this book you will find yourself questioning what a life truly is and how much of ourselves is left over when taken apart.
