An interesting take on a quarantined island (trapped and dying). As a virus keeps spreading throughout the teenage girls, making them mutate in unexpected ways, the girls and whoever has remained alive from the staff try to make the most out of a bad situation. Hidden truths keep piling up as the girls uncover more than what they'd expect about the island, the school they are attending, and the virus that keeps taking their lives. A determined protagonist, ready to save the ones she loves and willing to risk everything, Hetty, is facing decision after decision while struggling with guilt as she can't save everybody. Some plot holes make this book a 4 star, but it's still quite an amusing tale similar to Annihilation.
HPB Staff ReviewI didn't love this book - nor did I hate it. I was super excited to read this book. It has all the elements I love. Body Horror, Horror and strong female leads. I think it was the execution of the book that kept me from loving it. I'm not saying that I thought the author was a bad writer, just that it wasn't for me.
