Overview

THE FINAL INSTALLMENT IN SUE GRAFTON'S ALPHABET SERIES

WINNER OF THE ANTHONY/BILL CRIDER AWARD FOR BEST NOVEL IN A SERIES

Private investigator Kinsey Millhone confronts her darkest and most disturbing case in this #1 New York Times bestseller from Sue Grafton.

In 1979, four teenage boys from an elite private school sexually assault a fourteen-year-old classmate--and film the attack. Not long after, the tape goes missing and the suspected thief, a fellow classmate, is murdered. In the investigation that follows, one boy turns state's evidence and two of his peers are convicted. But the ringleader escapes without a trace.

Now it's 1989 and one of the perpetrators, Fritz McCabe, has been released from prison. Moody, unrepentant, and angry, he is a virtual prisoner of his ever-watchful parents--until a copy of the missing tape arrives with a ransom demand. That's when the McCabes call Kinsey Millhone for help. As she is drawn into their family drama, she keeps a watchful eye on Fritz. But he's not the only one being haunted by the past. A vicious sociopath with a grudge against Millhone may be leaving traces of himself for her to find...

  • The last book in Grafton's alphabet series

    Sandra H. - 3 years 11 months ago

With Sue Grafton's passing, this will be the last book in the "alphabet series." Beloved character Kinsey Millhone once again sets out to solve a mystery. This one is quite engaging due to the fact that it goes back and forth in time. A young girl was kidnapped and murdered by her classmates ten years ago. Kinsey is hired to find out who is blackmailing one of the classmates. All the reoccurring supporting characters play a part in the story - as well as the evil psychopath introduced in the last book, X. Grafton's writing style - her grit, humor, and suspense - will be missed!

I have read almost all of Sue Grafton and enjoy her books

  • The alphabet ends with Y

    Sebastian Z. - 7 years 11 months ago

Reading this book was bittersweet. Being a fan of the Kinsey Millhone mysteries, I was really looking forward to "Z" being the final chapter in her life as a private investigator. Y is for Yesterday starts out intense and remains so throughout the book. Just when you think you know who the culprit is, you're thrown a curveball and left on the edge of your seat wondering who else it could have been.
